DIY Moon Sand

Hudson got some Moon Sand for his birthday this year and loves playing with it. When I mentioned this to my sister and she told me that you can make it yourself from just a few ingredients. So I found this recipe online from Irresistible Ideas, Play Based Learning. I used blue playsand that I bought at Walmart and mixed it all up in a plastic bin. You can add more water as it drys out, just be careful not to add too much or it will become soupy. Hudson ended up adding more water to his and liked playing with it when it was really wet too, it just won't stick together and stay together. We also got out some old cake pans and muffin tins for him to play with it in.
Mix together:
4 cups sand
2 cups cornstarch
1 cup of water

  1. NO WAY! My kids would LOVE this!!! Thanks!

  2. Great idea. Now any ideas on easy clean up after? :)

  3. We play with the sand at my son's kids table and you could lay down a splat mat or old table cloth underneath. That way you can just roll it up after and pour the sand in the trash or reuse.

  4. Great idea! That moon sand is $$$. I like your comment about using a old tablecloth. My 2 year old has already dumped 50 lb of sand in my grass this

If you have a moment today, please share this with my readers @Creative Juice Thursday Hope to see yours among all the amazing projects!

    p.s. I am pinning you!

  5. Great idea. Colorful sand looks so beautiful.

Thanks for linking up at Tea Time Thursdays @ Kreative Korner and adding to the fun. The party for this week is going on... hope to see you there again :)
